of Russia

Our Internet resource for the first time opens wide access to the precious part of the Slavic heritage - the Serbian manuscript books.
The unique manuscripts - witnesses of a centuries-old history of the southern Slavs - were saved from destruction by scientists collected them in the 19th century. Such books have been carefully preserved in the holdings of the National Library of Russia.

The web resource presents a full body of Serbian handwritten books held in the Library's manuscript collections. These are 378 manuscripts from the 12th to 19th centuries, which will interest not only a wide range of scientists but also the general public.

The project was carried out with use of the information retrieval system «Depositary», which was developed by specialists of the National Library to create create digitised versions of the landmark manuscripts. Among them are Laurentian Codex, Codex Zographensis etc.

The project commemorates the curator and researcher of the Slavic holdings Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Zagrebin (1942-2004).

The project was implemented with the financial support of the Charity Foundation of Elena and Gennady Timchenko (Agreement No. 26/02 of April 13, 2017)
