Persian Literature for Children

Original Literature

Nevertheless, the original juvenile literature in Iran has existed for a long time. Remember, for instance, the famous stories of Nasreddin Hodja. In addition to such folklore tales, many authors have written books that have been published for children. They are also well represented in our stocks.

Two unusual books were selected for the exhibition. One is a collection of Iranian folklore, which is adapted for children by the journalist Kuhi Kermani Hussein. His autobiography, which served as a preface to the book, itself resembles a fairy tale. The book came out in 1954 in Tehran.

The other book, presented at our exhibition, was compiled by the professor Iranist from Edinburgh Lawrence Paul Elwell-Sutton (1912 & ndash; 1984), a tireless researcher of Iranian folklore. He introduced the readers of the East to the innermost layers of their own culture. The book consists of magical, romantic and humorous tales.

Both exhibits are richly illustrated and deserve a careful look at least for this.
